Muse is Meta's new AI agent that works on your behalf

Muse is a personal AI agent from Meta that you can give tasks from your phone or computer. Ask it to find a hotel for the weekend, and it can check room availability, compare prices and get a booking ready while you do something else.
What is Muse?
Meta, the company behind Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, launched Muse on September 8, 2026. Where the service is available, you can use the Muse app on iPhone and Android, a dedicated Mac app, your browser at muse.ai or WhatsApp. You give the agent a task by sending a message. In places where voice mode has rolled out, you can also speak to it in the Muse app.
An AI agent can use tools and take several steps on its own to complete a task. Muse can pull information from websites, fill out forms or work with your email and calendar if you grant access. Meta says Muse asks for approval before taking actions such as sending an email or making a purchase.
You can ask Muse for help with personal finances and budgeting, email and calendars, trip planning, restaurant reservations and tickets, price comparisons, online shopping, grocery lists, meal plans and workouts. For small businesses, it can also help track invoices and review accounts through tools such as QuickBooks.
In Meta's walkthrough, product designer Alex Cornell shows how he uses Muse to buy movie tickets, plan family weekends and get better at chess.
In the short video “How people are using Muse,” users describe how they track flight prices and create a content calendar, among other examples.
Each user gets a dedicated, isolated virtual computer in the cloud called Muse Secure VM. It includes a browser the agent can use much as a person would on a regular computer. Muse can keep working after you close the app.
Muse can also connect to other services and create its own tools when a task calls for them.
The different Muse models
Muse is the name of both the personal AI agent and a family of models built for different tasks.
Muse Spark
Meta introduced the original model family in April 2026. Muse Spark 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 followed, with successive improvements in reasoning, coding, tool use and the ability to work on tasks over time.
Muse Spark 1.3, released in September, is the latest version in this series. It is designed for work that requires an agent to plan and carry out several steps to reach a goal.
Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full
Released on October 12, these are Meta's most advanced models. They are designed for demanding tasks in areas such as coding, finance, legal analysis and work with AI agents.
Muse Wonder Full is the more powerful version. Muse Wonder is available through Meta's developer API and Muse Code. Full is available with select Muse Code subscriptions.
The models also introduce two key features, Active Memory and Active Focus, to help them remember relevant information and keep working toward a goal when they run into problems.
Muse Spark Open
Meta released this model with open weights on October 15. Developers can download the model and run it on their own hardware without relying on Meta's servers.
It has 816 billion parameters, 42 billion of which are active for a given computation. Parameters are the internal numerical values a model learns during training.
Running the model takes substantial computing power. Meta demonstrated it running locally on two Mac Studio computers with M5 Ultra chips. The weights are available under a custom license with restrictions on commercial use.
Muse Glimmer
Glimmer is a smaller model with 30 billion parameters, designed to run locally on a Mac or PC with sufficient capacity.
It is primarily intended for local AI agents, coding and tool use. Meta released the weights under the Apache 2.0 license, which gives developers broad freedom to use and build on the model.
Muse Image and Muse Video
Muse Image generates and edits images. It can combine multiple reference images, follow detailed instructions and use search or code to help generate an image.
Muse Video is designed to generate video with sound. Meta previewed it in July and has announced plans for wider availability.
Muse Voice Transcribe and Muse Realtime Voice
Muse Voice Transcribe turns speech into text in real time and can distinguish between speakers.
Muse Realtime Voice powers spoken conversations with the agent. Paired with Muse Realtime Avatar, it can give the agent an animated character that speaks, moves and reacts during the conversation.
Meta has also released Muse Code, an AI coding agent that can plan, write and test software. Muse Code is a developer tool that uses AI models.
What's new on November 6, 2026?
Meta introduced specialized versions of its existing models trained using Muse Wonder. The idea is to improve both Muse and Meta AI while giving Meta more flexibility over which tasks run on its largest models.
Two improvements stand out.
Active Memory helps the system recall important details from earlier conversations, decide what is still relevant and use that information when needed.
Active Focus helps the agent stay focused on its goal, try alternatives and keep going when things take an unexpected turn.
In Meta's own tests, the share of tasks where the model correctly used important information from earlier conversations rose from 76 to 90 percent. Meta also reported a 67 percent improvement in completing everyday tasks that involved unexpected problems. These figures come from Meta's own tests and have yet to be independently verified.
That same day, Meta launched Spaces, which lets users describe what they need and create custom interactive views inside Muse. A space could be a personal planner, an order tracker or a project tool. Spaces can connect to other services and update automatically.
A day earlier, on November 5, Meta began rolling out voice conversations with animated avatars in the Muse app in the United States.
Safety and availability
Muse can access sensitive information and take actions on a user's behalf. Meta built a separate safety system to control what the agent is allowed to do.
Meta says users must approve important actions such as sending an email or making a purchase. They can also decide which services Muse can access and review a history of its actions.
Meta says conversations and data from the virtual computer are kept separate from its advertising systems. Users can opt out of having their conversations used for model training. These are Meta's descriptions of its safeguards.
Muse is available in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan and Singapore. As of November 6, 2026, Muse has yet to launch officially in Norway. The service offers free basic features and paid subscriptions.
Key takeaways
- Muse can carry out tasks for you. You can ask the agent to compare prices, plan a trip or get a booking ready.
- The agent can keep working in the background. It has a dedicated, isolated cloud computer with a browser and can carry on after you close the app.
- Muse is also the name of the model family. Active Memory and Active Focus come from Muse Wonder and are designed to help the agent recall relevant information and find another way forward when it runs into problems.
- Spaces lets you customize the app. Describe what you need, such as a planner, and Muse builds a dedicated view. Meta is also rolling out voice conversations with animated avatars in the US.
- You control access. Meta says you choose which services the agent can use and must approve actions such as sending emails and making purchases.
- Muse is available on several platforms. Where the service has launched, you can use it on iPhone, Android, Mac, the web and WhatsApp. As of November 6, 2026, Meta has yet to announce an official launch in Norway.
